Your Transition Team has worked diligently over the past week to find a solution to issue of a registered sexual offender living amongst us. Although it has been less than a week we have some positive news to share with the community.
1. Both the Transition Team and OPD measured the distance from the offenders house to our playground finding it to be 854 feet and 850 feet both well below the 1000 feet required for offenders to be distanced from playgrounds. When informed of this Mr. Delaguardia's probation officer informed a member of the Transition Team, "HE MUST MOVE OUT OF YOUR COMMUNITY AS HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO RESIDE HERE AS HIS UNIT IS LESS THAN THE REQUIRED DISTANCE FROM A PLAY AREA BY FLORIDA LAW."
2. Using public information it was determined that Mr. Delaguardia used false information when obtaining his mortgage for his property. This has been relay to Sun Trust who is investigating the situation with the possibility of revoking his mortgage.
Where these are some very positive steps in having this offender removed from our community he has yet to leave and thus our continued diligence is required. Continue to watch your children, watch your streets, watch your community and if you see ANYTHING suspicious please call 9 1 1 immediately.

I really love when I see neighbors working together for the same goal, keeping our community safe. This is the way that everything should be handled!.
My congratulations to Mr. Fairweather for being so vigilant and to every single person that contributed to bringing this issue to light!

It's shocking for my wife and me to learn about this only almost a month after it was first brought up in this blog. Our first thought was that there really was not a mechanism in place to effectively inform all parents in the neighborhood when something like this happens. It is even more worrisome considering the number of young children living at Caramella Drive and the adjacent Gelato Drive.
When we were living in another state, there was one such incident in our neighborhood when a sex offender moved in. The policemen went door-to-door handing out flyers to inform every resident in the area. We wonder if a similar approach can be legally used here to notify those who may not have followed this space closely.
We need to do something quickly and decisively. The Anthony Sowell case in Cleveland on the news today shows us why we cannot take any chance at all.
