More than three years ago I created this blog as a way to increase community involvement or at least to keep Tivoli Village residents "in the loop." During these years I have asked next to nothing of anyone living here except help with community issues and projects. My thinking was if something was an obvious effect on everyone living here, then everyone should be involved in the decision making. I am sad to say that although we have made a continued effort to have more residents/owners involved the results have been less than superb but that is for another story in another month.
Today I write about something much more important ... education. I know, I know ... education does not directly effect everyone in Tivoli Village because not everyone is a teacher or has a student in school. This is an example of the sad understanding of people and the role of education. It is for the betterment of all Floridians, all Americans to continue to push public education to function at the highest level and that is the reason for this article today.
I am a public high school teacher, as are many other residents in Tivoli Village. I am also a parent ... just as many of you are and I can tell you in both circumstances I see a need for reform of our public education system. I can tell you our new governor and state legislature agree. The problem is we have differing approaches to the reform that needs to take place.
It is in that vain that I have started "Lets Reform Education" a lobbying group that is making a series of proposals to our state government in hopes of having teachers and parents perspective about the changes needed to public education. And I need your help with this effort ... no money just support. I need you to become a fan of our Facebook page (click here) and post comments on the supplied articles. I need you to follow us on Twitter (click here) and let me know what you think about the proposals we are making. If you are a teacher I need for you to post a video on our You Tube Channel (click here) and tell us what reform you would make.
Thanks you for your support and effort to make some positive reforms to the public educational system in Florida. I know it is cliche but our children are in fact the future and through our efforts good things will happen. For more information about our proposals, efforts and plans please visit www.globalcivis.com/letsreformeducation.html.
