Intro

Are You the Next Leader?

I don't attempt to make this blog neutral in spirit as I am not a reporter and my bias definitely shows through so as I write this next story take it as an editorial but one still full of information about a real event.
On Saturday July 9th from 9-12 the City of Orlando will provide a free workshop for different communities throughout the city to foster strong leadership in their home owners associations. The workshop will be held at the Orange County Internal Operations Center. For more information on the event click here.
I'm afraid this workshop will be a perfect example of the apathy we have as a community, a state and honestly, a nation. Time and time again people are asked to give of themselves for the betterment of the community. And time and time again the people of the community drop the ball. Somewhere we have learned how to make excuses instead of finding solutions. As we watch people around the world risk their life to simply vote it saddens me to see Americans not do the same. And yet it is these same people that are the complainers.
Our development is no different. we have 185 units in Tivoli Village and yet it is the same 20 people that are willing to do something to help our community, to make this a safe place to live or to help our home values increase. This blog was created years ago as a way to disseminate information. We also have a Facebook page that, as of today, has 34 fans. 185 units and only 34 fans. This tells me two things ... 1. People don't know about our blog or Facebook despite signs placed by each entrance at the beginning of each month. 2. People just don't care ... except to complain or not pay their hoa fees and yet receive the same services I do or use the pool however they see fit.
Well, I challenge everyone in this development, owners or renter to become a part of what we are trying to do. Attend our annual meeting next month, help us set up the block party, come to the National Night Out. Do something to be a part of this community. And don't complain when one of us that do challenge you to abide by the rules established by the same HOA and community I am asking you to be apart of.
