Our Community Members Coming to the Aid of Our Residents

More than 30 members of the greater Orlando Community came out Saturday from 11:00 to 1:30 to learn how to improve their credit during these difficult financial times. Fifth Third Bank partnered with Latino Leadership in providing the first of four financial literacy workshops. Stay posted to our blog and the local radio to learn when the next workshop will be.
Latino Leadership is also serving as a walk in center for members of the greater Orlando community to sign up for and learn about the Digital Television transfer taking place in just a few days. If you know anyone that still needs to get their hands on a digital converter box please visit the Latino Leadership website for more information. www.latino-leadership.org

I thought the Tivoli Village newsletter was for community events. Why is Latino Leadership getting first plug when we go into the web site? As a member of many recognized hispanic organizations I find this to be offensive and preferential. profits should not be involved.... how does this differ from soliciting which is not allowed?

I think any chance that members of our community have of getting free help to avoid financial trouble, deal with current financial trouble, and avoid foreclosure is a benefit to everyone. Considering the large number of foreclosures in this community and the large number of people that aren't paying their HOA dues, I can't think of a better place to let those members of our community know that there is help out there!

First ... I created this blog as a way to keep residents of Tivoli Village informed with what is going on in the community. Because this is my site I alone determine what goes on it.
Second ... I have always wanted to promote residents efforts and in fact created a section on the right side of the blog, to highlight things our residents do.
Third ... the program Latino Leadership if offering is a free service to help people improve their credit. And if you know how many people are not paying their HOA fees, you know a lot residents and owners need some help with their credit.
Four ... Latino Leadership has been a strong supporter of the Hispanic community for more than 10 years, is a non-profit that provides programs and services for free (for both Hispanic and non-Hispanic people) and is affliiated with NCLR. I am so sorry that you did not already know this.
Finally ... since you posted this anonymously I have no idea who you are. If you would like to speak to me face to face about this or any other issue community related or not, please come to our community meeting whichis also highlighted on the blog ... See you then!

Thank you for your suggestions and please know you have a voice! Although you can not vote, you can make suggestions and recommendations that could help the community you live in.
In reference to your suggestions ... As a deed restricted neighborhood with an expenditure budget the size of ours has to follow specific Florida statutes. These will not allow residents to trade services for HOA dues and requires us to us a management company. ... Im not sure if you have had the opportunity to read our community By-laws but it describes the deal our developer has made with our HOA. He agrees to not pay HOA fees for the 30 plus lots he owns in exchange for paying any overages of operating budget. He does not pay someones HOA fees, they are still legally responsible for that, but he does keep our HOA providing services like lan and pool maintenance. The issue is his delay in paying for those expenditures and this is where I have to limit what information is released to you as a renter.
I hope that expalins things a bit more and again, please come to the community meeting next week. You are a resident and invited to be there.

We think it is wonderful that The Latino Leadership Organization has extended an invitation to all residents of our Community to attend the workshop for information and assistance for financial matters in this difficult economic time.
As for the comments from Anonymous this service has been offered to our Community at "NO COST" and "IS NOT" doing this for profit.
It seems that Anonymous is making negative and harsh comments on an Organization that clearly this person knows nothing about and therefore should not be so judgemental.
Anonymous also made the comment that this ad was offensive. This ad
offers a service at "NO CHARGE" to any and all residents for information an assistance on financial matters. How can this be offensive to anyone?????? Your comments make absoltely no sense at all!!
Being a member of several Hispanic Organizations as you stated, we would hope that you would be more supportive of an Organization that is working in assisting all the residents of our Community.
Anonymous also commented on preferential placement of the ad for The Latino Leadership. This ad was placed with the best interest of our Community so that all could view it right away and not miss the opportunity that has been made available for our residents.
Tom does not give preferential treatment. Tom has always made it clear to everyone that they are welcome to place their ad on the Community Blog. Tom will always place the ads in the best interest of our community. We think Tom has done a great job on establishing our Community blog and keeping everyone well informed. Tom does this on his own time and his own dime and we all should thank him for that..Way to go Tom!
